Research content
DNA methylation at the 5′-position of cytosine in CpG dinucleotides has important roles in regulation of gene expression. Gene-specific DNA and global DNA methylation levels have been considered as biomarkers for cancer diagnostics. We therefore currently have several projects to develop simple DNA methylation detection systems to be applied for simple cancer diagnostics.
DNA quadruplex structure is one of the non-canonical DNA structure that was found in genomic DNA; however, little is known about the biological functions. We are aiming to identify DNA quadruplex structures on genomic DNA by next generation sequencers and reveal the biological functions.
Research theme

1. Development of direct DNA methylation detection systems
2. Functional analysis of DNA quadruplex structure on genomic DNA

Research keywords
DNA methylation , DNA quadruplex , biosensing
