Research content
Chemical engineering is a branch of applied chemistry that aims mass-production of chemical substances. Chemical engineering started as a design methodology for chemical plants, but it is now expanding its scope of application as an engineering that deals with phenomena intertwined with physical phenomena and chemical reactions, from addressing pollution problems to solving global environmental issues. In our laboratory, we are conducting research on various issues to realize a sustainable society by applying chemical engineering methods, especially the transition from a fossil energy-centered industrial society with problems of global warming and resource depletion to a renewable energy-centered industrial society. Specifically, we are researching the synthesis of carbon-neutral liquid fuels using biomass, water harvesting (rainwater harvesting technology) for arid land greening with global warming prevention in mind, and sensors for monitoring the activities of planted trees.
