Metal materials are used in various products, but it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the characteristics of these materials in order to use them effectively. Furthermore, the use of ceramics as materials for mechanical components is also being considered. In our laboratory, we investigate the material properties of metals and ceramics using various materials testing machines, and we also calculate them using computer-based numerical analysis. Additionally, we are also researching the applications of these materials. Figure 1 shows the results of a numerical analysis of the martensitic transformation of a TiNi shape memory alloy (SMA). Changes in the crystal structure of SMA due to temperature changes were expressed. The change in the crystal structure of SMA resulting from temperature changes can be observed. Figure 2 shows a walking robot with SMA wires as actuators.
